I have my primary credit union and then two separate bank accounts that I stash a little savings

Yes. I have accounts with two banks with one for savings only. It makes it easier to save.

I don't believe in putting all my coins in one place so I use 3 different institutions: one for bills/casual spending, one for savings only, one for side hustle income only. I also opt out of having a card per account simply because I've chosen to designate one bank account for spending.

I think it's a great ideal to have several different accounts for different reasons. I myself have 2 checking accounts (one for paying bills and one for automatic withdrawal payments), 2 savings accounts and an online banking account which I use for my online work. I also have a net spend that I put money on for my own personal use so that I not spending bill money buying myself stuff that I want or need.

It can be cumbersome to have more than one bank. This burns up a lot of gas and time.
